What a Cheltenham mow includes, front to back

Here is how a standard visit runs on a typical Cheltenham block, the kind of family home you find in the streets off Charman Road or around Cheltenham Park. I start at the front. The lawn is mown in straight, overlapping passes at a height that suits the grass, a touch longer in summer so it holds moisture and shorter through the cooler months. Then the edges. Every border along the path, the driveway and the garden beds gets a clean vertical cut with the edger, so the lawn finishes in a crisp line instead of creeping over the concrete. Fence lines, letterboxes, water meters and tree trunks are done with the whipper snipper, kept low and even to match the mower height.

From there I move down the side of the house and into the back. Same process: mow, edge, trim around the clothesline, the shed and any play equipment, and under the trampoline if it can be shifted. Clippings are caught and taken away unless you would rather keep them for compost. The last job is the cleanup. Paths, the driveway, the porch and the back patio are blown clear of grass and leaf litter, gates are closed behind me and nothing is left for you to sweep. That is the whole visit, and you know exactly what you are paying for before I arrive.

Nature strips along Charman Road and the side streets

Most Cheltenham homes have a nature strip out the front, and plenty of them are wide, with a council street tree in the middle. It gets the same treatment as the front lawn: mown to match the front lawn, edged along the kerb and footpath, trimmed carefully around the tree without damaging the bark, and blown clean so the gutter is not full of clippings. Corner blocks have a strip that wraps around two frontages and takes longer, and the quote reflects that.

Hedges, garden beds and the gardening side

Lawns are only half of a Cheltenham garden. The other half is the hedging along the fence lines, the lilly pillies and pittosporums planted for privacy, and the garden beds that fill with weeds after a wet spring. I look after those too. Hedge trimming is done to a straight line and a consistent height, with the top kept a little narrower than the base so light reaches the lower growth and the hedge stays dense rather than going bare at the bottom. Garden bed maintenance covers weeding, light pruning, tidying the edges and topping up mulch where it has thinned out.

For a yard that has got away from you, a garden cleanup brings the whole block back to a point where regular visits can keep it there. Weed and pest treatments are available for bindii in the lawn, weeds coming up through paving, and the usual aphids and scale on hedges. If you are selling or moving out, auction, sale and end of lease preparation gets the outside looking its best for photos and open inspections.

Regular visits or a one-off tidy-up

For most Cheltenham blocks, a regular booking makes the most sense. Fortnightly suits a standard front and back lawn through the growing season, when couch and kikuyu put on real growth in the sandy local soil. Weekly works for larger lawns or anyone who wants it looking sharp all the time. Monthly keeps things in check over winter or for a low-maintenance garden. The visit runs the same way every time, on a consistent day, so you are never guessing when I will turn up.

One-off visits are welcome too. A tidy before a party, a catch-up after a holiday, a cleanup before the house goes on the market, or a first visit to see how I work before committing to anything regular. There is no lock-in either way.
